Youth arrested for firing on students during Anti-Discrimination Student Movement

A suspect in the shooting of students and bystanders during a student anti-discrimination movement has been taken into custody in Chittagong.This 33-year-old man is Mohammad Mizan.

On Monday, near the Bayazid Bostami police station area, he was taken into custody by men of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) from Brahmanpara.

RAB-7 According to Sharif Ul Alam, the assistant director for media in Chittagong, Mizan’s arrest was made possible by confidential information.

Some 1,200 yaba tablets and a knife were recovered from his possession, reports Prothom Alo.

Mizan is reported to have opened fire on students and civilians during the anti-discrimination student movement on July 17 and 18 in the city’s Bahaddarhat Kanchabazar area.

Photos of him with a weapon had spread on social media.

Arrested Mizan is accused in seven cases against him under murder, arms, and drug laws.

He is known as a leader of a juvenile gang.

It is noted that during the anti-discrimination student movement, on July 17 and 18, local councilor Esrarul Haque, leading leaders and activists of the Awami League and its affiliated organizations took position in the Bahaddarhat area.

At that time, pictures of the former president of the Chandgaon thana Jubo League, Mahiuddin Farhad, and Jubo League activist Jalal, also known as Drill Jalal, with weapons spread on social media.

After Sheikh Hasina was ousted from power on August 5, Mizan, Mahiuddin Farhad, and other armed individuals were named as accused in cases of murder and the Special Powers Act filed at Chandgaon and Panchlaish police stations.
