Education Adviser Wahiduddin Mahmud has stated that government officials' first job is to serve the people of Bangladesh.
Speaking as the principal guest at the 76th Basic Training Course's concluding and credential distribution event at the Bangladesh Public Administration Training Centre (BPATC) in Savar, Mahmud emphasized the significance of accountability and responsibility in public service.
He urged government employees to develop a sense of patriotism and prioritize the wellbeing of the country's citizens.
“Excellence and sincerity in serving the public will be the benchmarks for evaluating the efficiency and competence of a public servant,” he said.
He also highlighted the need for equal service to all citizens, regardless of religion, gender, or socioeconomic status, asserting that serving the people is a right, not a favor.
Reflecting on the recent transformative student-led uprising, Mahmud called for a commitment to building a fair, just, and equitable Bangladesh.
He acknowledged the challenges posed by a lack of good governance in the past but stressed that thoughtful and well-planned actions are crucial for achieving the desired progress.
Mahmud pointed out that successful implementation of this vision requires well-trained government employees.
"You must meet the expectations of the countrymen that have emerged from the immense sacrifices of the student-led movements," he told you.
