Upazila Chairman Moni resigned in the face of student fire

Juri Upazila Parishad Chairman Kishore Roy Chowdhury Moni of Moulvibazar has announced his resignation in the face of student fire.

On Thursday night (August 15), he resigned on the demand of the students of the anti-discrimination student movement in the hall of the Upazila Executive Officer.

Kishore Roy Chowdhury Moni said in a written letter, I am Kishore Roy Chowdhury Moni. Chairman Juri Upazila Parishad. Today 15/08/2024 I resigned. I will officially complete the letter of resignation on 18/08/2024.

Juri Upazila Executive Officer Bablu Sutradhar said that on Thursday, the leaders of the anti-discrimination student movement came along with the Upazila Parishad Chairman. At the same time the higher authorities of the army arrived. Officer-in-Charge and Assistant Commissioner of Juri Police Station were present.

He said that the statement of the students was that the upazila chairman would give his resignation letter. The chairman has asked for two days to officially resign. For now, he has given his resignation in writing in view of their demands.

In response to journalists’ questions, the Upazila Executive Officer said that according to his written statement, he resigned on Thursday.

Upazila Parishad Chairman Kishore Roy Chowdhury Moni said, I have presented my statement in writing to the Upazila Executive Officer, Officer-in-Charge of the Police Station, senior army personnel and student coordinators. I have no verbal statement on this matter.

In response to a question, he said, “I have given my resignation in writing.”

It should be noted that on August 3, general students held a quota reform movement in Juri. At the end of the procession, the leaders and activists of Awami League, Jubo League, Chhatra League and organ organizations attacked ordinary students with indigenous weapons. Some students were injured in the attack. Upazila Chairman Kishore Roy Chowdhury Moni played a silent role in this incident.But the next day, on August 4, the Awami League and the leaders and activists of the organization organized a march in Juri along with the attackers, and the students and some people prepared for the movement and stayed in Juri with native weapons to resist.It was led by Juri Upazila Chairman Kishore Roy Chowdhury Moni and Vice Chairman Jewel Ahmed (Jewel Rana).
