Police have arrested Md. Khaled Ahmad, a UP (Union Parishad) member and the organizational secretary of the Awami League in Akhailkura Union, Moulvibazar Sadar Upazila, for allegedly attacking an anti-discrimination student movement.
He was arrested on Sunday (March 9) in front of the Akhailkura Union Parishad office.
Md. Khaled Ahmad is a UP member of Ward No. 4 in Akhailkura Union and a resident of Mirpur village. He is the son of Mammud Miah. Allegations against him include intimidating general students and leading an armed attack with his group on a student-public rally in Moulvibazar town on August 4.
Locals claim he is involved in extortion and various criminal activities. There are allegations that he misused his political influence to illegally remove bricks from union roads. He is also accused of engaging in terrorist activities, illegally occupying government land, and constructing shops for business purposes. He has reportedly formed a group known as the “Khaled Bahini” (Khaled Force).
ASI Md. Rana Mia of Moulvibazar Model Police Station confirmed the arrest, stating that the accused would be presented in court.
