A primary school teacher of Moulvibazar Sadar Upazila wants to collect pension money by pretending to be mentally ill. But he is mentally and physically healthy. Sources say the teacher is going to Canada on a visit visa with pension money.

The students, parents and the conscious circles of the district are criticizing the teacher who is an expert in making people. They say if the teachers resort to such lies then what will the students learn from them.

It is known that Tahmida Islam, an assistant teacher at Moulvibazar Sadar Model Government Primary School, applied through proper authorities to go to Canada for advanced treatment for mental and physical ailments.

In view of the application, Sylhet Divisional Deputy Director granted leave from September 17 to October 16. In the meantime, the teacher applied to the District Education Officer on August 12 for exemption from service due to physical and mental illness.

The medical board rejected Tahmida Islam’s application when she was sent to the Civil Surgeon’s office to check whether she was really sick or not.

According to sources, Tahmida Islam had a close relationship with some Awami League leaders and activists during the previous government. Under the influence of this, he used to behave rudely with colleagues and come and go to school at will.

When I contacted the teacher Tahmida Islam on the phone to know about this matter, she cut the connection after getting the identity of the reporter.Moulvibazar Sadar Model Government Primary School head teacher Rohena Khanam said that Tahmida Islam is physically and mentally healthy.

District Primary Education Officer Md Khorshed Alam said that since the medical board did not declare him invalid. Therefore, he will have to take treatment in the country and his leave outside Bangladesh will also be cancelled. In response to the question that whether the teacher is a mental patient, he said, “I have never heard that.”

Moulvibazar Civil Surgeon Chowdhury Jalal Uddin Murshed said that the teacher’s mental illness application has been cancelled. He has been asked to seek treatment at Sylhet MAG Osmani Hospital.
