The new Election Commission, led by former secretary AMM Nasir Uddin, is expected to take its oath of office on Sunday.

Chief Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed would administer the oath to the new chief election commissioner and four commissioners at 1:30pm that day, several Supreme Court sources confirmed on Friday.

The previous commission, led by Kazi Habibul Awal, resigned on September 5, a month after the ouster of the Awami League regime.

Two and a half months later, on Thursday, President Mohammed Sahabuddin formed a new five-member Election Commission under the leadership of AMM Nasir Uddin.

The commission also includes former additional secretary Anwarul Islam Sarker, former district and sessions judge Abdur Rahman Masud, former joint secretary Tahmida Ahmad and Brigadier General (Retd) Abul Fazal Md Sanaullah as commissioners.

This new commission will be responsible for organizing the next general election.
