An imam named Maulana Ruhul Amin (37) was allegedly killed by his wife in Golapganj. Police recovered the body from a rented house in Hilalpur of Phulbari union around 5pm on Saturday. Meanwhile, the killer’s wife Nadia Begum (40) was arrested and brought to the police station.

The deceased is Mofazzel Hossain, son of Abdul Jabbar of the village. He was the imam of a mosque in Hilalpur.

According to local and police sources, at some point on Friday night, his wife Nadia Begum first strangled her husband Ruhul Amin to death and hid him under the bed. She then went to Ruhul Amin’s father’s house and told their relatives that she could not find her husband. Later, locals recovered Ruhul Amin’s body from under the bed of the house around 5pm. Later, police arrested the woman and forwarded her to court.

It is learned that the deceased Maulana Ruhul Amin had married for the second time 15 days ago. He married his first wife Nadia Begum in 2020. He had a long-standing family dispute with Ruhul Amin.

Mir Abdun Naser, officer-in-charge of Golapganj Police Station, confirmed the matter. Police initially suspected that Ruhul Amin was strangled to death.
