Monkeys and birds trapped in cages were rescued in Kamalganj

The Department of Wildlife Management and Nature Conservation has rescued 1 monkey and 1 dead bird tied to a cage from Kamalganj in Moulvibazar. The two animals were rescued from the house of Mokshad Miah and Abu Ali in Karimpur area of Kamalganj municipality around 5pm on Thursday (September 12).

According to the Forest Department, local media activist Salahuddin Shuvo and Stand for Our Endangered Wildlife Coordinator Sohel Shyam said that two families have been keeping 1 dead bird and 1 monkey baby in cages in two houses in Kamalganj Municipality.

Moulvibazar Range Officer of the Department of Wildlife Management and Nature Conservation Shahidul Islam conducted a drive in the area and rescued the monkeys and myna birds. However, sensing the presence of the forest department, the poachers fled the scene. The carcasses and monkeys were brought to the Sreemangal office of the Wildlife Conservation Department.

Ansar VDP member Ashraful Alam, Junior Wildlife Scouts of Wildlife Management and Nature Conservation Department Tajul Islam and Subrata Sarkar were present at the time.

Range officer Shahidul Islam said the monkey and the bird were taken to Jankichhara Rescue Centre in Lawachhara. The monkey and the bird will be released in the Lawachara forest on Friday.
