Government records show 826 people died in the July Movement

Sarjis Alam, secretary of the July Memorial Foundation and chief organizer of the Jatiya Nagorik Committee has announced that July Shaheed Smrity Foundation will establish offices in every division to support victims’ families locally.
Necessary measures will be taken to ensure that no family members of the deceased or injured face mistreatment when visiting the foundation.

Sarjis made these remarks during a press conference in front of the July Memorial Foundation in Dhaka on Wednesday.

He further assured that necessary actions would be taken against anyone who mistreats the families of the deceased and injured when they come to the foundation.On the same day, the foundation disclosed the details of the assistance provided to the families of the victims and injured.

According to the government, 826 people were killed in the July Movement.
Among them, assistance has been provided to the families of 628 victims, while 198 victim families remain.

Sarjis presented the foundation’s current bank account details.

He said the bank had a deposit of Tk109 crore. Of this, Tk47crore has been distributed as assistance so far.

Currently, about Tk61 crore remains in the account.

Among 11,306 injured people, only 1,601 have received assistance because we requested a list of injured people from the government, which they provided.”

To ensure transparency, injured individuals must have their medical documents authenticated by doctors, Sarjis added.

“Some attempted to falsify medical documents to claim benefits. This month, the government will provide substantial financial assistance of Tk30 lakh to victim families.”

He also mentioned complaints that some individuals, not directly involved in the movement, have tried to claim benefits fraudulently.
