90 imported Indian sarees were recovered during a special drive carried out by the Shamshernagar police outpost under the Kamalganj Police Station.
On Wednesday afternoon (October 15), a CNG-powered auto-rickshaw used to transport Indian and stolen sarees was confiscated during a raid in the Daulatpur region of Shamshernagar district.
Shamsharnagar police outpost in-charge Omar Faruk said: “We conducted the drive based on a tip-off that Indian sarees were being smuggled by changing the level of the sarees. On seeing police, the driver abandoned the vehicle and fled. After searching inside the CNG auto-rickshaw, 90 pieces of Indian sarees have been seized, the market value of which is estimated to be around Rs 6 lakh 30 thousand. A case was filed with Kamalganj Police Station in connection with the incident.
