In a post on his verified Facebook page, Hasnat Abdullah, the convener of the anti-discrimination student movement, urged the general public across the country to remain calm and not to pave the way for the conspiracy’s implementation.

He said: “Be patient, stay calm, and please do not create any instability by taking the law into your own hands. Our Bangladesh is a country of communal harmony. We will not allow this harmony to be disrupted in any way.”

Hasnat Abdullah further said: “Since August 5, a certain group has been deliberately conspiring to create chaos in our country. Please do not get involved in conflicts that pave the way for their malicious conspiracy to succeed.”

On Tuesday evening, during a clash in Chittagong, Assistant Public Prosecutor (APP) Saiful Islam Alif, 35, was killed.

He was reportedly hacked to death, as confirmed by the president of the Chittagong Bar Association, Nazim Uddin Chowdhury.

In his Facebook post, Hasnat Abdullah demanded the swift arrest and trial of the murderers of Saiful, urging that if any specific organization is involved in the crime, actions should be taken against that organization as well.

He called on everyone to remain calm, vigilant, and patient.

Meanwhile, in another Facebook post, Sarjis Alam, a member of the Jatiya Nagorik Committee and General Secretary of the July Shaheed Smrity Foundation, said that if any individual, terrorist group, or organization uses religion as a “tool” to incite communal violence, strict action must be taken against them.

He said: “Whoever is involved, the maximum punishment for murder should be sought. No leniency for conspirators, as too much leniency will make them emboldened.”

Sarjis also emphasized: “The judgment of extremists should not depend on their religion but on their extremism.”
