Former shipping minister and member of the Awami League Presidium Shajahan Khan was taken into custody by the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Detective Branch (DB) in the capital.

He was taken into custody late on Thursday night from a house in Dhanmondi.

Rezaul Karim Mallik, the Additional Police Commissioner (Detective) for the DMP, verified the information.

The police officer said that details about the case under which he was arrested would be provided later.

Shajahan Khan was elected as a member of parliament from the Madaripur-2 constituency for the eighth consecutive term. He is also the executive president of the Bangladesh Workers Federation.

In 1986, he ran as an independent and won the Madaripur-2 constituency’s seat as a Member of Parliament.
