Former Industries Minister Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun was detained in Gulshan, Dhaka, by the Rapid Action Battalion.
Assistant Superintendent of Police ANM Imran Khan, who also serves as the assistant director of the RAB's Legal and Media Wing, confirmed the information early Wednesday.
According to the official, Nurul was arrested in a case filed over attacks and deaths of students and the public in Narsingdi's Madhabdi district on August 4, during the recent Anti-Discrimination Student Movement.
Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun was elected as a member of parliament in 1986 from Narsingdi-4 as a candidate from the Awami League. He was re-elected in the ninth and 10th general elections in 2008 and 2014, respectively.
In the ninth parliament, he served as a member of the Standing Committee on the Ministry of Defence, and in the next parliament, he chaired the Standing Committee on the Ministry of Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment as well as the Standing Committee on the Ministry of Commerce.
After winning in the 11th parliamentary election, Nurul was appointed as the minister for industries.
