The flood has rendered around 2,025 cell towers operated by five mobile providers in 12 of the 15 districts in Bangladesh’s northeastern region inoperable.

This has resulted in disruptions to mobile network services.

According to the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission’s Engineering and Operations Department (BTRC), approximately 16.7% of towers were inoperable as of 5 p.m. Thursday.

Out of the 12,179 towers, 10,154 are still operating.

Other severely impacted areas include Noakhali with 344 towers, Lakshmipur with 84, Feni with 466, Brahmanbaria with 32, Chandpur with 121, Chittagong with 194, Khagrachhari with 94, Habiganj with six, Moulvibazar with 42, Sunamganj with 24, and Rangamati with nine towers out of service.

In response, 10 V-SATs have been prepared with the assistance of the Bangladesh Satellite Company Limited (BSCL) to maintain constant communication with flood-affected areas. Five of these V-SATs have already been sent to Feni.
