A fire broke out at the house of Sheikh Rumel Ahmed, former chairman of the 11th Mostafapur Union Parishad and vice-president of the district Jubo League, in Moulvibazar Sadar Upazila. His mother, Sheikh Mehrun Nesa (65), and aunt, Fulesha Begum (60), died from suffocation during the incident.

The fire occurred at his home in Mostafapur village in the early hours of Saturday (December 7), around 3 a.m.

Fire Service Station Officer Jishu Talukder stated that upon receiving news of the fire, the fire service team rushed to the scene. Sheikh Mehrun Nesa and Fulesha Begum had fallen unconscious due to smoke inhalation. They were rescued and taken to Moulvibazar Hospital, where doctors declared them dead.

He further mentioned that preliminary investigations suggest the fire might have originated from an electrical short circuit.
