In connection with a case pertaining to the death of textile worker Rubel, a Dhaka court has placed Farhad Hossain, a former minister of public administration and member of parliament for Meherpur-1, on five days of custody.

The directive was approved on Sunday by Additional Metropolitan Magistrate Md Sanaullah of Dhaka.

Inspector Md Abdul Malek of the Adabar Police Station, who is also the case’s investigation officer, presented the accused to the court and requested a seven-day remand.

The attorneys for Farhad Hossain requested bail and the revocation of the remand. Following a hearing from both parties, the court issued a five-day detention.

The Rapid Action Battalion arrested Farhad Hossain from the Iskaton area of the capital on Saturday.

A case was filed against him on August 5 in connection with the shooting and killing of students and the general public during an anti-discrimination student movement.
