Juri Thana police arrested Chhatra League leader Sahab Uddin Samchu in connection with the attack on students during the anti-discrimination movement in Juri of Moulvibazar district. Sahab Uddin Samchu served as the former joint convener of Upazila Chhatra League.
He was arrested on Wednesday (September 25) night after a raid at his business establishment in Juri upazila.
According to the case, as part of the central program of the anti-discrimination student movement, the leaders and activists of Awami League and its associate organizations attacked ordinary students on three days on July 16 and August 3 and 4 in Juri city.The students took out a peaceful rally on August 3. Awami League, Jubo League and Chhatra League leaders and activists obstructed them. Students were brutally beaten up. Some of the injured were taken to the upazila health complex. Later, Tarek Mia, one of the co-coordinators of the anti-discrimination student movement, filed a case against 63 leaders and activists of Awami League and its associate bodies on August 26. The accused is former Chhatra League leader Shahab Uddin Samsu.
Confirming the arrest, the investigating officer of the case, SI Sirajul Islam, said that Chhatra League leader Sahab Uddin Samchu was arrested in connection with the attack on students during the anti-discrimination movement. He will be sent to the learned court on Thursday morning.
