Case against 63 activists of Awami League in Juri

A case has been filed against 63 leaders and activists of Juri Upazila Awami League and organizations of Moulvibazar. On Monday (August 26), Tarek Mia, a co-ordinator of the anti-discrimination student movement, filed the case as plaintiff. Another 120 unidentified people have been accused in the case.

According to the statement of the plaintiff and the case, as part of the central program of the anti-discrimination student movement, Awami League and other organizations attacked ordinary students on three days during the program held in Juri town on July 16 and August 3 and 4. Especially on August 3 students took out a peaceful procession. At that time the leaders and activists of Awami League, Jubo League and Chhatra League stopped them. In a one-stage attack, the students were beaten up and some students were injured.

Notable accused named in the statement of those who instructed and involved in the attack are Juri Upazila Awami League President Md. Masuk Miah, Juri Upazila Parishad Chairman Kishore Roy Chowdhury Moni, Vice Chairman Jewel Ahmed alias Jewel Rana, Paschim Juri UP Chairman Anfar Ali, Sagarnal UP Chairman Abdun Noor, recently removed member of Moulvibazar Zilla Parishad Badrul Islam, Upazila Awami League Joint General Secretary and former Upazila Vice Chairman Rinku Ranjan Das, Upazila Awami League Organizing Secretary Jahangir Alam, Upazila Jubo League General Secretary Shekrul Islam, Organizing Secretary Shah Alam, Cultural Secretary and Ittefaker. Juri representative Kamrul Hasan Noman, former office secretary of Moulvibazar District Chhatra League and contemporary Juri representative Belal Ahmed, former president of Upazila Chhatra League Sahab Uddin Sabel, general secretary Iqbal Ahmed, member of Upazila Jubo League Siddikur Rahman Sumon etc.

Juri Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Mehedi Hasan confirmed the case and said that the police operation to arrest the accused is continuing.
