Moulvibazar-4 (Sreemangal-Kamalganj) constituency's 7-time MP and former chief whip and former agriculture minister Abdus Shahid has been arrested.
He was detained by Uttara West police from his home in Uttara Sector 10 around 3pm on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, in Moulvibazar-4 constituency Sreemangal and Kamalganj upazilas, BNP leaders and activists took out joy marches after noon on Wednesday following the arrest of Abdus Shahid. BNP and its associate bodies took out separate processions.
BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, chairperson's adviser Abdul Awal Mintoo, BNP joint secretary general Syed Moazzem Hossain Alal, organising secretary Abdus Salam Azad and ex-Dhaka City unit BNP members secretary Abdus Salam were, among others, present at the meeting. On the other hand, another procession, led by Jubo Dal vice-president Kazi Abdul Gafur, left the city's Station Road and ended at College Road.
From the rally, they demanded justice for the irregularities and corruption of the former agriculture minister.
