Bangladeshi-Canadian Dolly Begum Wins Ontario Provincial Election for the Third Time

Bangladeshi-Canadian and proud daughter of Moulvibazar, Dolly Begum, has been elected as a Member of Provincial Parliament (MPP) in Canada’s provincial elections. Her victory has sparked widespread celebrations in her hometown.

In the election held last Thursday, Dolly Begum won the Scarborough Southwest seat with 42.9% of the vote. Her victory has brought immense joy to her native village.

Following her win, Dolly Begum expressed her gratitude, saying, “This victory belongs to the entire team and the people of Scarborough. I am deeply grateful to everyone who stood by me in this challenging election battle.”

A member of the Ontario New Democratic Party (NDP), Dolly Begum has now been elected as a provincial legislator for the third consecutive term. She first won the provincial election in 2018 and has continued her winning streak ever since.

Speaking about her remarkable success, her uncle, Md. Masidur Ahmad—Director of the WAPDA Board in Monumukh Union—said, “Dolly Begum is the eldest daughter of my middle brother. This is her third consecutive win as an MP in England. We are extremely proud of her incredible achievement. Her success has brought immense joy not only to our family but also to the people of our area. We wish her continued success in the future.”

Dolly Begum hails from Monumukh Union in Moulvibazar Sadar Upazila. She moved to Canada with her family at a young age and grew up in Scarborough, Ontario. She later studied at W. A. Porter Collegiate Institute in Toronto before earning her undergraduate degree from the University of Toronto. She then pursued a master’s degree in Development, Administration, and Planning at University College London.
