Dr. Asif Nazrul, Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs Adviser, and Adilur Rahman Khan, Housing and Public Works Adviser, ordered the authorities on Tuesday to finish renovating the Old Building, which served as the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) of the High Court division of the Supreme Court.

They gave the order while examining the ICT on Tuesday morning.

Chief Prosecutor Advocate Tajul Islam and officials of the Housing and Public Works Ministry accompanied the advisers during the visit.

Advocate Tajul said they (advisers) basically went to inspect the renovation work of the Old Building.

After inspecting, the advisers wanted to know the headway of the renovation from the engineers and ordered it to end soon so that the main trial act of the cases filed with the ICT centring the recent student movement can be initiated using the Old Building.

The recently ousted Awami League established the ICT to prosecute the war crimes trials in 2010 following their electoral manifesto.

Some top BNP and Jamaat leaders were handed capital punishment and the orders were also executed. Later the activities of the ICT were halted.

The interim government decided to prosecute the accused who were involved with the alleged genocide during the July movement.

As per the decision, the government appointed the chief prosecutor on September 5 and later five more prosecutors.

So far, 54 complaints have been filed against former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and others for their involvement in the July-August movement centered on ICT.
