A female tea worker named Gita Kahar (30) was killed in a hill collapse while working in Khasia Punji area under Adampur Banbit of Kamalganj Upazila of Moulvibazar.

The incident took place at Patrakhola tea garden in Kamalganj on Thursday (May 30) afternoon. Three others were injured in the incident.

According to local sources, some workers including unemployed women of Patrakhola tea garden in Kamalganj upazila went to work in Khasia Punji in the neighboring Adampur Bonbit area. Geeta Kahar was crushed to death when part of a hill collapsed while crossing the road. Geeta Kahar is the daughter of Shankar Kahar, the new line of Patrakhola tea gardens. At that time Meghnath Ben Banshi (40), Rajesh Gaur (26) and Pradeep Kumari (22) of the same garden who were with Geeta were injured. They are being treated at the hospital.

In this regard, Adampur UP Chairman Abdal Hossain and Madhavpur UP Chairman Md. Asid Ali said, they were working in Khasia Punji in Bonbit area. The body of the deceased has been handed over to the family.

Kamalganj Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) Zainal Abedin said, I have received the news. Financial assistance will be provided to the affected families.
