An older father was killed when his son was hit by a shovel at Kamalganj in Moulvibazar. The injured mother is hospitalized.

The incident took place on Sunday night (May 29) at Kewalighat village in the Muslim Manipuri village of Kamalganj. Father Abdul Gafur (58) was killed when his son Zahirul Islam (26) hit him with a shovel. The injured mother Haston Nesha (45) was admitted to Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital last night. The deceased was identified as Gafur, son of late Abdul Jabbar of the village.

According to the locals, son Zahir had a quarrel with his parents on Sunday night. At one stage, angry Zahir hit Baba Gafur on the head and body with a shovel in the house. At that time, her mother Hasnat Nesha went to save her husband and hit him, and fled. Later, the family members rescued the injured and took them to Kamalganj Health Complex at 1 pm. The on-duty doctor gave first aid and referred them to Moulvibazar Sadar Hospital. Abdul Gafur died on the way to the hospital.

The locals further said that it was not known what the son had a quarrel with the father about. However, his son Zahirul was addicted to drugs.

Kamalganj Police Station (OC) Yardous Hasan said police were working to nab the accused boy. Legal action will be taken against him.
