Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has arrested two individuals, including a Jubo Dal leader, in Juri, Moulvibazar. During the operation, 871 pieces of Yaba were recovered from them.
The arrest took place on Monday (March 24) morning in the border area of Chungabari Road, near Main Pillar No. 1834 in Fultola Union, based on secret information.
The detainees are Md. Jahangir Hossain (30), the Organizing Secretary of Jubo Dal’s Ward No. 5 unit in Fultola Union and son of Asabur Rahman from Matinpur village, and Md. Imran (20), a CNG driver and son of Shafik Mia from the same village.
According to BGB sources, the operation was conducted based on intelligence, leading to the arrest of Jahangir Hossain and Imran with 871 pieces of Yaba. However, another suspect, Nazrul Islam (35), son of Babul Mia from Matinpur village, managed to escape.
When asked about the Jubo Dal leader’s involvement, Fultola Union BNP’s Senior Joint Convenor and UP Member Imtiaz Gafur Maruf stated, “If the detained individual is part of our committee, we will take immediate disciplinary action and expel him.”
Fultola Union Parishad Chairman Abdul Alim Selu expressed his gratitude to BGB, saying, “There will be no leniency regarding drugs and smuggling. Even if any of my relatives are involved, I will not spare them. I am committed to building a drug-free society.”
Confirming the incident, Juri Police Station Officer-in-Charge stated that a case is in process regarding the matter.
Lieutenant Colonel Mehedi Hasan PPM, Commander of the BGB 52 Battalion in Beanibazar, affirmed that such operations will continue to curb drug trafficking and smuggling along the border.
