In Moulvibazar, a full work stoppage was observed in protest of the discriminatory suspension of officials from various cadres and to demand an end to inter-cadre discrimination. The demonstration was organized by the Inter-Cadre Discrimination Elimination Council, which represents officials from 25 different government cadres.

On Sunday (March 2), the council held the protest at the campuses of Moulvibazar Government College and Government Women’s College.

Members of the council in Moulvibazar believe that for the sake of efficient public service and national welfare, cadre officers should be assigned to ministries based on their expertise rather than administrative cadre dominance. They also called for necessary reforms to reduce the monopoly of the administration cadre. At one point, the protesters gathered in front of the administrative building of the college, holding banners.

It is noteworthy that, according to a statement issued by the Inter-Cadre Discrimination Elimination Council yesterday, 13 officials from 25 different cadres were recently suspended over minor issues such as social media posts. However, no action was taken against members of the administration cadre for similar actions. The council alleged that the administration cadre is using discriminatory state mechanisms to obstruct the activities of other cadres.

As a result, the council announced a full-day work stoppage for all its affiliated cadres on Sunday to protest the biased suspension of various cadre officials and to demand the elimination of inter-cadre discrimination. The ongoing protest is part of this movement.
