Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman stated that the Awami League had committed “electoral genocide” in this country. They divided the nation, establishing the peace of a graveyard. They turned the country into a wasteland or cemetery, where no living person resides. They attempted to destroy opposition parties, including Jamaat-e-Islami and Shibir, but failed to realize that ideological parties cannot be eradicated.
Speaking as the chief guest at a workers’ conference organized by the Moulvibazar district Jamaat at Moulvibazar Government High School grounds on Saturday (December 21), he made these remarks.
The Jamaat Ameer said, “On October 28, 2006, Awami terrorists attacked and killed people using sticks and poles, dancing over their corpses. After coming to power, they murdered patriotic army officers and renamed the pride of our forces to Border Guard Bangladesh, which effectively means border guards. They began with Jamaat and extended their persecution to all opposition parties. Eleven of our top leaders were killed. Offices were locked, houses demolished with bulldozers, and our registration was revoked. Finally, we were banned. Despite all this suffering, we have declared that we love this country and its people. We will not seek personal revenge, but we will continue to demand justice for every wrongdoing.”
Addressing India, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman said, “You are our neighbor. We wish for your peace. We do not question what you cook in your kitchen, so do not try to peer into ours. Do not attempt to interfere with our communal harmony. This country has been a land of communal harmony for ages. We will not allow any miscreants to exploit the situation here.”
The Jamaat Ameer emphasized that no single entity can claim credit for the student and public movement against inequality. He noted, “Some have wrongfully claimed the credit, but the truth belongs to all 180 million people of this nation. Martyrs are never confined to political divisions. They are the proud children of the nation, national heroes. Identifying them with party affiliations is unjust—they are national treasures.”
He made Jamaat’s commitment clear to the nation: “We do not want the nation to be deceived repeatedly. We aim for a corruption-free, bribe-free Bangladesh. If given the opportunity by Allah, we will build a Bangladesh of equality and eradicate discrimination. We will recognize talent and transform the youth into a productive workforce. Let us rise above party and religion for the sake of the nation and work together to build a humane Bangladesh. I assure you, we are ready to sacrifice even our pride for the unity of this nation. We do not want a divided nation.”
