231 bags of Indian sugar recovered from former MP Zillur Rahman’s brother’s firm, 1 arrested

In Moulvibazar, 231 bags of Indian sugar were recovered during a special drive by Rajnagar police. One person, identified as Mohan, was arrested.

Police raided the godown of Ataur Rahman, chairman of Kamarchak union parishad, on the ground floor of Pubali Bank in Tarapasha Bazar of Kamarchak union of Rajnagar upazila at midnight on Thursday, October 10. 231 bags of Indian sugar recovered in the operation.

Ataur Rahman is the younger brother of former Moulvibazar MP and Awami League leader Mohammad Zillur Rahman. The accused in multiple cases of attacks on the anti-discrimination student movement has been absconding since August 5, police said.

Md. is the officer in charge of the Rajnagar police station. “The raid was conducted on the godown of the Ataur chairman based on secret information,” according to Mubashir. From there, 231 bags of Indian sugar were confiscated. The smuggled sugar from the Sylhet border area was stored in this godown for sale. A case was registered with Rajnagar police station under the Special Powers Act (SPA) against unknown individuals, including arrested Machkan Miah and absconding chairman Ataur Rahman. Attempts are being made to arrest the suspects.
