On Tuesday, at least 40 readymade garment (RMG) factories in Dhaka’s Savar and Ashulia regions were closed.
Md Sarwar Alam, superintendent of Ashulia Industrial Police-1, stated that no untoward incidences had occurred in the region since the morning.
Other workers had arrived on time in factories in Savar, Ashulia, and Dhaka’s Dhamrai upazilas.
According to data from the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), there are 1,294 garment factories in Savar, Ashulia, Dhamrai, and Gazipur.
On Monday, 90 factories in the Ashulia industrial zone were closed due to disagreements between workers and owners over various demands, as well as internal issues.
In response to workers’ demands, a meeting was held at the BGMEA building on Monday with workers, owners, and law enforcement agencies.
Following the meeting, it was announced that several demands had been accepted and all factories in the industrial zone would reopen on Tuesday.
Additional security personnel have been deployed and surveillance has been increased to maintain order in the area.
