BNP leader Badsha Mia Kajal has filed a general diary (GD) with Sreemangal police station against Zakir Hossain Ujjal, vice president of the Jubo Dal’s central committee and president of Moulvibazar district Jubo Dal, accusing him of making phone threats and attempting to take over a contract project.
Badsha Mia, who is vice president of Sreemangal upazila BNP, filed the GD on Tuesday.
According to the GD, a contracting company, Mir Akhter Hossain Limited, was appointed by US multinational oil and gas company Chevron Bangladesh for a project in the Kalapur area.
On August 19, Mir Akhter Hossain Limited signed a subcontract agreement with a local organization, Badsha Enterprise, owned by Badsha Mia Kajal.
Badsha Mia claimed in his GD that on August 22, between 5:20pm and 5:25pm, he received phone calls from Zakir Hossain Ujjal, who allegedly threatened him and expressed his intention to take over the contract.
When Badsha Mia attempted to call Zakir to discuss the matter, Zakir did not answer.
Instead, Zakir reportedly contacted the project manager of Mir Akhter Hossain Limited, Abdul Mannan, urging him not to assign the work to Badsha Mia.
Zakir also allegedly sent people over to threaten Badsha Mia and put pressure on the company officials.
“I am a businessman and an active BNP activist. I served as the general secretary of the union BNP for a long time and am currently the vice president of Sreemangal upazila BNP,” Badsha Mia mentioned in the GD.
He added that he had informed Moulvibazar BNP President and former member of parliament M Nasser Rahman, as well as Moulvibazar-4 parliamentary candidate and BNP executive committee member Mujibur Rahman Chowdhury, about the situation. He has called for a thorough investigation and justice.
Badsha Mia said: “We have informed senior BNP leaders both in writing and verbally, seeking fair judgment. I am feeling extremely unsafe.”
Abdul Mannan, the project manager of Mir Akhter Hossain Limited, confirmed that his company had subcontracted work to Badsha Enterprise in the Kakia Bazar area.
“We usually involve the local community in our projects. Zakir Hossain called me, insisting that I give the job to him based on his party identity. He also requested that we halt the ongoing work,” Mannan said. “When I told him that we had already awarded the contract, he questioned my authority and sent two men, one of whom was named Bakul, to pressure us further.”
Zakir Hossain Ujjal, however, denied the allegations, calling them “completely false and baseless.”
He suggested that the accusations might be politically motivated.
“The allegations levelled by Mannan, the project manager of Mir Akhter Limited, are not accurate. I believe someone is trying to frame me due to political rivalry,” he added.
Moulvibazar BNP President M Nasser Rahman stated, “The interim chairman of our party has issued strong directives that no one should cause disturbance. We received the complaint and reported it to the party’s central office for proper action.
Ali Mahmud, Officer-in-Charge (OC) at Sreemangal Police Station, acknowledged that a GD had been filed and that an investigation was underway.
