Anti-discrimination students held a human chain and protest march at separate places on August 18 (Sunday), demanding the resignation of the chairman of the Hajipur Union of Kulaura Upazila of Moulvibazar and the headmaster of Telibil High School.

It is known that the Chairman of Hajipur Union Parishad and General Secretary of the Union Awami League, Wadud Baks, was elected with the boat symbol in the last UP elections and established the reign of various irregularities, corruption, and looting in the area. Even though the general public did not open their mouths because of his fear, the chairman went into hiding after the change of government. In this way, the people of the Union are being deprived of civic services. In the wake of this, hundreds of anti-discrimination students and angry people staged a human chain and protest meeting in the local Katarkona market, demanding the resignation of Chairman Wadud Baks. Anti-discrimination students Tarek Ahmad, Zainul Islam, Rahim Rahman, Raihan Ahmad, Fahmida Yachmin, Sumaiya Akhtar, Shimla Akhtar, and Harunur Rashid gave speeches on behalf of the area.

Meanwhile, the students and residents of the upazila staged a huge human chain and protest march demanding the resignation of the controversial headmaster, Noman Ahmed, of Telibil High School in Sharifpur Union of the upazila. The students blocked the India-Bangladesh transit road for several hours, demanding the immediate resignation of the head teacher. This caused a long traffic jam on both sides of the road.

Students Hasan, Shahjahan Khan, Michbah, Johnny, and Lippi, ex-students Mainul Islam, Ali M. Akhter, expatriate businessman Abu Rukian, etc. spoke on behalf of the local residents.
As the accused headmaster was on leave, his statement was not available.

In this regard, Kulaura Upazila Nirbahi Officer Mohiuddin said that he went to the spot after receiving the news of the students’ movement. However, none of the head teachers or the managing committee were present. Students’ claims will be addressed within 2–3 days. The students then lifted their blockade. Meanwhile, the students have signed a memorandum demanding the resignation of the Hajipur union chairman. We are taking necessary action in this regard.
