The ilish was apprehended in the afternoon in the Pachthubi union region of Comilla Sadar upazila’s Chanpur Bridge, according to BGB-10 commander Lieutenant Colonel Md Iftekhar Hossain.

“Around 5pm, a syndicate was attempting to smuggle the ilish to India using 35 boxes. Upon receiving a tip-off, the BGB conducted a raid, but the smugglers managed to flee. The fish was later seized. The market value of the 850kg of ilish is approximately Tk9.52 lakh.”

Following BGB protocol, the seized fish was sold, and the proceeds were deposited into the government treasury.
