50,000 people are trapped in water in Juri

Due to continuous rains and mountain runoff water coming down from the upstream of India, severe flooding has occurred in the border area and Hakaluki Hawar area of ​​Moulvibazar. Due to the rise of water in the rivers of Juri upazila, Juri city and various low-lying areas of the upazila have been flooded and 50 thousand people have already been trapped in water. Jaifarnagar and Paschimjuri Union of the upazila were the most affected by the flood.

Roads in several areas have been flooded with flood water. Along with that, the houses and shops of different areas have sunk.

Meanwhile, the people of that region have suffered greatly as the flood water has entered the various low-lying areas of the upazila. Many are leaving their homes and running to safe shelters or relatives’ homes in higher areas.

Many of the people in the lower areas said that their houses were submerged in the flood water. Now I am going to the shelter.

Juri upazila executive officer Lusikant Hajong said that the upazila administration has taken all kinds of preparations to deal with the flood situation.

Meanwhile, on Tuesday (June 18) afternoon, the former Minister of Environment, Forestry and Climate Change and local member of parliament. Shahab Uddin MP visited the flood affected areas of Jaifarnagar and West Juri Union which were the most affected by the floods. Meanwhile, he inquired about the families sheltered in Juri Model Government High School Shelter and Makdi Girls High School Shelter. Cooked food and relief was distributed among these families.

Moreover, on Tuesday night, dry food was distributed among the flood affected people in various shelters on the initiative of Juri Upazila Parishad Chairman Kishore Roy Chowdhury Moni.

West Juri Union Parishad Chairman Anfar Ali, former Chhatra League leader Jahangir Alam along with Awami League, Jubo League and Chhatra League were present at this time.

Mizanur Rahman said this morning, “Already 65 villages of the upazila have been flooded and nearly 50,000 people are trapped in water. 14 shelters have been opened in Juri to deal with the flood situation. 60 families have taken shelter in these shelters so far.”

About 500 people from 160 families have taken shelter in 16 shelters. This number is increasing with time. We are distributing dry food. Last night, cooked food was distributed by the Jaifarnagar Union and dry food was distributed by the Upazila Parishad.
